Why I Love St. Matt’s

St. Matt's Community   -

There are lots of reasons I love St. Matt’s, but the first thing I can think of is the people.

Everyone accepts you, no matter what. It doesn’t matter if you go to church once a year or every Sunday, the people welcome you. And it’s not just that people welcome you and accept you, they’re kind, and caring, and joyful.

I really like to learn about the bible, and hear the stories. I like to praise God, say prayers, and sing songs. But for me, the real lessons come from the people I call my church family.

Even though my grandparents, parents, and siblings go to St. Matt’s, I have a whole other group of people who care about me. They teach me how to be a good person by example. They make me enthusiastic about worshiping God. They take the time to listen and answer my questions. They tell me stories from their own lives, and that makes me want to be a better person.

It’s really special because even though the priest is the leader, everyone else at St. Matt’s is like a big team that works together to make faith grow.

I feel very lucky to know these people, and I have missed everyone since COVID-19 started. We haven’t been in the actual church since March 8, 2020. But the good thing is—like I said before—it doesn’t matter how often you go to church. It doesn’t matter how much you pray or read the bible or if you sing songs or just listen to the choir. It doesn’t even matter if you are a loud little kid or a quiet grown up. The people there will welcome you and be happy to see you because that’s what it’s like at St. Matt’s.
